Enrico Veneziani obteve a sua licenciatura (2010) e mestrado (2012) pela Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna. Obteve o seu doutoramento pela University of St. Andrews (Reino Unido) com uma tese intitulada A Eclesiologia do Papado de Honório II (1124-1130), com um Calendário Preliminar de Cartas (2018). Foi bolseiro no Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medio Evo (2019-2020) e recebeu uma bolsa de investigação pelo NEH da Saint Louis University (USA) - Centro de Estudos Medievais e Renascentistas (2020). É especialista em história eclesiástica entre os séculos XI e XIII, com especial interesse pela história papal, a reforma do século XI e a abadia de Montecassino. Atualmente é Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellow e investigador integrado no Centro de Estudos de História Religiosa (UCP-CEHR), com o projeto Sub beati Petri et nostra protectione suscipimus: Reenquadrando as relações entre Roma e os reinos de Portugal e Aragão (séculos XI-XIII). Este projeto de investigação examinará e comparará as relações do Papado com Portugal e Aragão desde o pontificado de Alexandre II (1061-1073) até Inocêncio III (1198-1216). A hipótese de trabalho é que o estudo das relações entre o centro (Roma) e a periferia (Portugal e Aragão) permite não só conhecer melhor a história da Sé Apostólica e as estratégias adotadas para sustentar as suas reivindicações de primazia, mas também as visões da Igreja Romana nas fronteiras do Cristianismo, que podiam (ou não) ter sido partilhadas pelo mesmo Papado.
Enrico Veneziani received his BA (2010) and MA (2012) from the Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna. He had his PhD from the University of St Andrews (UK) with a thesis entitled The Ecclesiology of the Papacy of Honorius II (1124-1130), with a Preliminary Calendar of Letters (2018). He held a research fellowship at the Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medio Evo (2019-2020) and a NEH Research Fellowship at Saint Louis University (USA) - Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (2020). He specializes in ecclesiastical history between eleventh and thirteenth centuries, with a particular focus on papal history, on the eleventh-century reform, and on the abbey of Montecassino. He is currently Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellow (Host Institution Universidade Católica Portuguesa-CEHR), working on the project Sub beati Petri et nostra protectione suscipimus: Re-framing the relations between Rome and the kingdoms of Portugal and Aragon (eleventh-thirteenth centuries). My research will examine and compare the relations of the Papacy with Portugal and Aragon from the pontificate of Alexander II (1061-1073) to that of Innocent III (1198-1216). The working hypothesis is that relations between the centre (Rome) and periphery (Portugal and Aragon) will shed light not only on the Papacy and on the strategies adopted to support its claims of primacy, but also on views of the Roman Church from a frontier of Christianity, which may (or may not) have been shared by the papacy itself.
